One of the most important skills in life is being a great leader. During Students In Action, the 9th grade learned how important being a leader is through helping the community. In the beginning of the year, we did not know what we were getting into. This was the first year with Fenn competing in this conference so we were a little confused. After the first conference, we started to brainstorm ideas for our project and began working very hard for at it for the end of the year conference. Throughout the year we learned how important it is to help out the community but also to become better leaders. A great example of this is the canned food drive where at first we were a little reluctant to put ourselves out there to become leaders of the project but as the week went on kids started volunteering to help the drive a ton. We actually ended up getting a majority of the can towards the end of the week because we were a lot more engaged than earlier in the week. This is all due to the leadership of the 9th grade. Without kids stepping up we would have put a lot more work on the teachers who don’t have much time, to begin with. Leadership was a huge part of our project this year without it, we would not have gotten as nearly as much stuff done.
